TOP STORY THIS WEEK
UK starts buying Putin’s oil

Wait no because you said, she said, you said, she said it was ok, right?
Oh, this is a cluster, isn’t it? On one hand, we’re training troops and sending financial support to Ukraine…on the other, we’re buying oil from Russia.
As you’re aware, diesel prices have gone through the roof due to Donald Trump’s antics, and the government has just promised a 5p saving on fuel
…but we need to get that fuel from somewhere.
Needs must, eh?

Commander tells MOD to get a f’ing grip

Another retired bloke has gone full send at the MOD and I’m here for it.
Tom Sharpe (no relation to Richard Sharpe) is an ex-RN commander and he’s reeling at the prospect of more British defence firms going under because the government is dragging its feet when it comes to orders.
He’s basically saying that Rachel from accounts Reeves is telling everyone there’s no money for defence (because it needs to be spent on welfare) and that’s having a knock-on effect across entire supply chains.
In other news, poor Rachel got heckled quite spectacularly by a bunch of geezers this week.
Glasgow Council chins off Royal Regiment of Scotland

Councillors from the SNP and Green Party have voted not to grant the Royal Regiment of Scotland the Freedom of the City of Glasgow.
What this means in practice is that Scotland’s last remaining infantry regiment is no longer allowed to march through Glasgow. Let that sink in.
It’s a disgrace and shows the utter contempt these melts hold for our service personnel.
Cowards.

The Torygraph: Tide Turning?
So there is a lot of chat about the tide turning in Ukraine’s favour. The Telegraph has unpacked this with a few insights. 7mins. Quite interesting.
THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
Big events from the past, covered in brief and probably inaccurately.
26th May 1940: Dunkirk Evacuation Begins

Early in WW2, the BEF force found themselves trapped on the north coast of France as German forces stormed through the region. Surrounded on all sides they ended up on the beach at Dunkirk with nothing to the rear, but the Channel.
After calls went out for help, an extraordinary military and civilian effort took place, and over the next week some 300,000 soldiers were taken back to Blighty by any and all means necessary. What began as a total disaster on paper, went on to become a symbol of national resilience.
Still pretty hard to police that waterway I’ve heard.
